Other Events

Over the years we have run many other events, normally in collaboration with others, for example:

Children's story telling

Our story telling sessions for under fives are usually run as part of our fundays

The common is a great site for good stories, especially our beautiful tree seat. Sometimes the story's theme is linked to a treasure hunt or quiz. In 2018 it involved searching for Wally.

Dog training

The commonis popular with dogs and dog-owners. We invited the Dogs Trust here several times to run dog training sessions and other fun activities for dogs.

Tree walks

The Common hosts a large number and range of trees, as do our local streets, thanks to the enormous efforts of groups like the Tree Musketeers (link opens in a new window/tab) and the LB Hackney Aboricultural (tree) Department (link opens in a new window/tab) over the years, as well as local groups like SNUG. We often invite the Tree Musketeers to lead guided tours to point out the variety of trees growing on the Common and local streets.

Local history tours

Given the rich local Common history, we are lucky to have so many keen historians in Hackney. SNUG regularly invites Sean Gubbins of Walk Hackney (link opens in a new window/tab), to lead fascinating tours of the local area. He thoroughly researches the background to each walk and fills the tour with fascinating facts about the area, how it was developed, as well as the previous uses, or inhabitants, of each building
