Environmental Work



Over the years...

 
SNUG has undertaken a great deal of environmental improvements on the Common, often in collaboration with others, to improve its bio-diversity and how it looks and feels for local people.

Our work has included planting and then looking after trees, hedges, spring bulbs, wildflowers and creating and improving habitats for other creatures, including birds, beatles, butterflies... 

From being bleak and empty, the common is now a thriving bio-diverse site and an oasis of green. As well as looking and feeling much nicer, the range of plants and spaces is great for the natural world. 
 
The hedges and trees help reduce heat, noise and air pollution (link opens in a new window/tab) especially from the A10 traffic (link opens in a new window/tab). A park like the Common, especially with so many trees and hedging, helps reduce local flooding and provides shade and cool areas in hot weather.
