SNUG runs numerous events every year, including:
Family Fundays
We held the first common
picnic in 2006, to celebrate the opening of the playground, and have
held a family fun day most years since.
Over the years our Fundays have included workshops on flint
knapping (to commemorate our ancient ancestors), children's
story-telling, wood-turning, willow -weaving, sock-wrestling, a tug of
war, stilt-walking, table-
tennis, dance lessons, yoga....

Local history tours
Given the rich Common history, we are lucky to have so many keen historians in Hackney. SNUG works with the Hackney Society (link will open in new window) and trained guides to lead fascinating tours of the local area. They thoroughly research the background to each walk and fill the tours with fascinating facts
about the area and how it developed, as well as the previous use of certain building.

Tree walks
The Common hosts a large number and range of trees, as do our local streets, thanks to the enormous efforts of groups like the Tree Musketeers (link opens in new window/tab), the LB Hackney Aboricultural (tree) Department (link opens in new window/tab) as well as local groups like SNUG.We often invite the Tree Musketeers (link opens in new window/tab) to lead guided tours to point out the variety of trees growing on the Common and local streets.
Plant Sales
At least once a year, SNUG provides plants for sale. We select high quality plants from local nurseries and growers and our own gardens, prioritising plants we know grow reasonably well in this area. We also encourage plant-swaps.Some of our more green-fingered members are always keen to share their extensive horticultural knowledge.
Midwinter Sing Songs
Take a break from all the rushing about and join a local group of people to sing your heart out. Then follow it up with mulled wine etc at the Boiler House Community Centre, N16 (link opens in new window/ tab) - and hey presto you feel good. Just wrap up warm & bring a torch. We provide song-sheets... and sometimes a surprise guest!
Bike Repair Days
We run at least one bike repair day each year, where skilled bike
mechanics do their best to address whatever challenges come their way -
although some are even beyond them.
This is part of our environmental commitment - SNUG would like to see
much greener transport policies and habits because of the proven health
and environmental advantages. Moreover the air quality in this area is
extremely poor, largely because of the number of major, busy, roads
nearby, not least the A10.
